Imagine a society where youth are actively involved in their communities, where youth are heard, engaged and able to funnel their passion toward the betterment of society through participation. ICA dares to imagine such a world. Through community-driven projects, free public courses and fee for service agreements, the Youth as Facilitative Leaders program is working towards making such a society a reality.

The YFL program consists of a series of facilitation training workshops that help youth envision a new leadership paradigm by showing them how to draw on the different perspectives of any group and work collaboratively toward building a consensus position. These workshops give youth the insight, skills and training that will enable them to achieve both personal empowerment and the ability to work with groups of people to affect social change.

YFL skills can be used in a variety of different group settings to:

  • Turn vision into action
  • Engage participation of each group member
  • Transform conflict into consensus
  • Develop realizable strategic plans
  • Lead inspiring and effective meetings
  • Collaborate in successful problem solving

YFL has trained youth who are involved in:

  • Student groups
  • Professional groups
  • Work meetings
  • Community committees
  • Community development organizations
